Tamil Nadu School Summer Holidays 2026 and Reopen Date

The School Education Department has announced that summer holidays for schools in Tamil Nadu will commence on April 17. Most government, aided, and private schools for all levels (elementary to higher secondary) will reopen for the 2026-27 academic year on June 1, 2026 (Monday). Only Classes 1 to 3 will start on June 4, 2026 (Thursday).

The summer holidays for Tamil Nadu school students (Classes 1 to 9 and Class 11) begin immediately after the completion of annual examinations. For Classes 1 to 9, exams conclude on April 16, 2026, and holidays start on April 17, 2026. For Class 11 students, exams end earlier on March 27, 2026, allowing them an long holidays. All these classes will reopen together on June 2, 2026, marking the start of the new academic year.

The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has finalized the academic schedule for the 2025–26 academic year, bringing clarity for students eagerly waiting for their summer holidays. Due to the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections scheduled on April 23, 2026, exams are conducted a bit earlier than usual to ensure smooth arrangements for polling and both activities.

Based on the School Reopen Proceedings dated April 9, 2026, School reopening for Classes 1 to 3 will start their classes later, on June 4, 2026 (Thursday). This delay is due to district-level training for teachers on new textbooks being introduced for these classes, which will take place from June 1 to June 3, 2026.
