About the Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme

Tamil Pudhalvan Scheme is a significant initiative introduced to increase the enrolment of Government School/ Government-aided School (Tamil Medium) Boy students in Higher Education after the huge success of Puthumai Penn Thittam which was earlier introduced for Girl Students. Financial Assistance of Rs. 1000 per month aids in bringing  their higher education dreams into reality.

• Budget allocation for 2024-2025 Rs.360 crores.
• 3.28 lakh students are expected to benefit.

Uniqueness of the scheme

• Ensures students complete their education without financial hurdles.
• Prevents dropouts beyond higher secondary and increases the retention ratio in higher education.
• To help students from poor and marginalised backgrounds to pursue their higher education.

Who can apply?

• Students who have completed 6th to 12th Standard in Government Schools or Tamil Medium from Government Aided Schools and have their first course.
• Students availing other scholarships are also eligible to apply.

Single Window System

1. Register at umis.tn.gov.in
2. Unique ID will be sent to the registered mobile number.
3. The Application will be processed through a Single Window System after verifying the Aadhar Number, EMIS ID and UMIS of the Student.
4. Students whose applications have been approved will receive Rs 1,000/- month directly in their registered bank accounts.
5. Students can receive notifications about their application status via SMS.
